Play Selection Committee Process

The goal of the enhanced process is to allow the Play Selection Committee (PSC) to focus on the shows, and reduce the influence of picking favorite directors.

Names and identifiers will be blocked out by the chair so the names of the individuals submitting will only be known by the Chair of the committee and the President of the Board.

Upon selection of a season, resumes will be shared with the committee to then deem if there are concerns with an individual directing. This could include: does the committee feel the director should have an assist director suggested by the committee, does the candidate have reasonable theatrical experience. This experience could be in directing, performing, technical theatre with an emphasis put on directing experience.

Anyone can submit a suggestion or proposal except for anyone serving on the PSC that season. If someone on the committee chooses to submit in a given season they are serving they must step down and be replaced by a new appointee.

Anyone can submit any suggestion with no desire to direct. This is if an individual wants to suggest a play/musical they feel the theatre should consider. If this suggestion is chosen the committee will seek out a volunteer who might want to take on that project. If an individual submits with no intention of directing, they only need submit the form with their name and show information but not include any vision statement, scenic concept, or resume.

If there are not sufficient submissions to create a viable season the committee can suggest shows and a director using the above process would be sought out.

This will also depend on timing and other criteria and the committee can resort to committee members if it is thought best. PSC will do its best to find directors for shows that do not have a director or may lose a director and will reach out first to some directors who did not direct the year prior depending on the productions needs and difficulty.
